đșĂsterlen, the region, has a long tradition of craft and artist-run studios, and youâll notice it everywhere: ceramics in earthy stoneware glazes, small design objects made in limited runs, textiles, printmaking, and contemporary art shown in barns, gardens, and old farm buildings. Also in the main street, Ting & Tang and many more. The fish chairs in our house are made by a local designer (Carina HĂ€gg Design,, which is very typical for Ăsterlen.
We recommend the very local: Gösta Werner Museum (Museum Gösta Werner och Havet), an active, operating museum/konsthall at the harbor, and just out the back yard there is the Art School sometimes having exhibitions during the summer. On the Main Street: the artist Gunilla Mann. Chek online, you might find a lot in English and German. The little village Smedstorp has a few very interesting art workshops: Den blĂ„ GĂ„rden and more. Also you will find a lot of Summer flea markets (âloppisâ) and vintage.
